One of Hollywood's most favorable couples have officially called it quits. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have made a mutual decision to separate after 7 years of marriage. Reese and Ryan met at Reese's 21st birthday party and married in 1999, just after starring in the box office hit "Cruel Intentions."

Despite their always smiling faces on the red carpet, awards shows and other public events, the couple wasn't always as happy as they seemed. Reese publicly admitted that the two had seeked professional help with their marriage a couple years ago to help sort out certain problems they had been dealing with.

Reese and Ryan are dedicated parents to daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3. A public statement was released indicating that the two Hollywood celebrities had formally separated and would appreciate privacy and respect from the public. They also released a statement indicating that both stars remain committed to their family.

While it seems almost impossible for any Hollywood marriage to last, Reese and Ryan were two that I thought would definitely go the distance. The pressures of Hollywood and the overbearing papparazzi have been accused of ruining more than one celebrity marriage over the years.

Other Hollywood couples who have recently called it quits include Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson and Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro. These, among numerous other couples over the years have failed to make their marriages last.
