2006 is quickly coming to a close and let's just say it hasn't been an easy year for many of Hollywood's hottest power couples. This year has brought more tears, drama and breakups than any other year in the last decade. From Denise and Charlie to Heather and Richie, this year was full of interesting gossip that fueled some of the most talked about divorce scandals in Hollywood history.

Let's recap the top 10 breakups of 2006:

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen were probably one of the most controversial couples to divorce this year. Rumors sparked of Charlie cheating on Denise and some speculations even went as far as accusing him of verbal and physical assault. Regardless, it didn't take long for Denis to find comfort in the arms of her best friend Heather Locklear's husband, Richie Sambora - which leads me to my next one...

Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora had been happily married for 11 years before Denise decided to hook up with Heather's husband. Denise claims she and Richie were never together until after the two had split - but really, what difference does that make. Don't worry Heather you're better off without them.

The highly anticipated wedding of Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow never ended happening after all. Lance broke up with Sheryl but never really admitted why. The two remain friends and definitely had one of the easiest and most mature breakups of the year.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe definitely fueled one of the most shocking and unexpected divorces of the year. The two seemed to be happily married for over 7 years and have two small children Ava (7) and Deacon (3). Reports claim the reason for divorce may have had to do with Ryan's new costar Abbie Cornish.

Carmen Electra and Dave Nevarro were one of the most publicized couples in Hollywood. They married on their hit TV show ''Til Death Do Us Part" (which took place in 2003 and aired in 2004) and ended up parting soon after.

Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook had one of the most heartbreaking (for Christie) divorces of the year. Christie filed for divorce after finding out that Peter had been having an affair with a 19 year old girl in their hometown.

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills had been married 4 years when they split in May of this year. Paul and Heather claimed it was too difficult to maintain a healthy relationship when so much of their lives were in the public eye. As a result, the two separated and have went their own ways ever since.

Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson always seemed to be a weird pair to me. The two seemed so different, so it wasn't much of a surprise to anyone when they split. What was a surprise was the fact that the divroce sparked rumors of Kate and Owen Wilson hooking up on the set of their movie "You, Me and Dupree."

Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock have one of the most outrageous relationships in Hollywood. After just over 3 and a half months of marriage, the two decided to separate. Although there was no prenup, the marriage broke up so quickly that even if there was one, it would have had little impact on the divorce.

Finally, the last (and best) breakup of the year goes to Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. Britney finally did what most people had been urging her to do since she said "I do." The pop princess finally came to her senses and filed for divorce in early November. Since then, she has been partying hard with her new best friend, Paris Hilton.
