Sanjaya Booted Off - Will 'American Idol' Ratings Go Down this Week?

Sanjaya Malakar, one of the primary reasons why ratings on American Idol continued to go up this year, was booted off the show last week. Millions of fans were devastated and shocked to see the 17 year old from Federal Way, Washington tear up as he sang his last song on the show. Now, a week later, it's on everybody's minds whether or not the fate of Sanjaya will reflect the fate of the show after his dismissal.

A number of dedicated Sanjaya fans vowed to stop watching the show if he got kicked off. While Sanjaya did his best to assure his fans that it was okay to keep watching, it's a definite possibility that ratings will go down this week. Although Idol has been a highly successful show over the past seasons, it's not hard to tell that people are starting to get bored with it. If it weren't for Sanjaya, this season would have been the most boring of all seasons.

So will American Idol see a dip in views and votes this week? Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Ryan Seacrest usually announces how many votes were cast for the contestants so if he doesn't mention it this week we can all guess why.

Check out Think Fashion's exclusive tribute video to Sanjaya Malakar.

American Idol it's a show. I  don't care the ratings, but I watched this season just for Sanjaya.  I wish the best to all of them, but the show needs to change. It's boring. It's like in life...if you are soooo serious and don't try to spicy the routine with funny things, starts to be deppresing.

I did not watch last night.  I did try for about 15 minutes, and I DO MEAN TRY!  The judges were way to "Sugary" and what I say was just to bland.  I found myself thinking, why am I not watching George Lopez?  So I kept switching back and forth for about 5 minutes and then just stayed on George Lopez.  I did check back to Idol during Lopez commercials so does that count as watching?  I miss SANJAYA so very much.  I thought maybe I will watch and see if he shows up in the audience but quickly decided sitting thru the whole show wasnt worth the off chance.  I may hit Idol tonight during commericals from other shows on tonight or I may just watch my Sanjaya Tapes.  I would only be interested in seeing who gets voted off but then again I wont care much if I miss that either.  Sorry!!!    I just miss Sanjaya*

Of course Ryan Seacrest will mention the # of votes because the producers can make these up according to the rules.  There is no monitoring of how many votes there really were or if someone like Sanjaya was really in last place.  Also his ejection was timed so that the week after the ratings would still be high with the gala of stars.  Next week's rating should tell more.

Guess you don't watch much Idol....The ratings will be through the roof this week as it is Idol gives back week...A star studded charity extravaganza.  I agree that Sanjaya was absolutely the most entertaining on the show...but this week won't be an indicator of the impact of his absence
