The reason so many celebrities think they’re above the law is because they are treated like they are.
Nicole Richie, who has been charged with DUI twice in the last four years, has been sentenced to a mere four days in jail.
As we reported previously, the law states that any individual who is charged with DUI twice must serve a minimum of five days in prison.
Is there any reason why Richie can’t serve the minimum sentence? Is one day really going to make a difference? She committed the crime and should have to do the time, just like everyone else.
But don’t worry, Nicole was not let off easy (or so says the judge).
She was also sentenced to 21 days in an alcohol education course, charged a fine of $2,048 (pocket change to a celebrity like Nicole) and was given a three-year probationary period.
The judge also told Nicole that if she was caught drinking and driving again -- and killed someone -- that she would be charged with murder, as opposed to manslaughter.
Too bad someone may have to die in order for justice to be served.
Do you think Nicole was let off too easy?
