Lane Garrison is desperate to share his drinking and driving story to prevent future deaths from DUIs.
Sure, we’ve all heard the stories about Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and numbers of other celebrities who have chosen to get drunk and drive home, but we all know there are many other cases around the world that we don’t hear about.
Here’s a celebrity story worth hearing:
“Prison Break” star, Lane Garrison, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter after crashing into a moving vehicle and killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian in late December, 2006.
Garrison was drinking and driving on the night of the accident and is pleading for others to learn from his mistakes.
“Every year there are over half a million alcohol related car accidents in the United States alone,” says Garrison. “Just don’t drink and drive. It’s not worth it, it’s just not worth it.”
The video of the 27-year-old is heartbreaking. Lane fights back the tears as he relives the day that has forever changed his life.
Personally, I have no patience for those who drink and drive. But, surprisingly, I feel as though Lane is genuinely sorry for the pain he has caused others (as he should be).
Tons of people drink and drive, but very few of them learn from their mistakes. It seems to me as though he has.
Do I think he should be let off on any charges? Absolutely not. Do I think that he could possibly serve the public better by speaking to teens about the dangers of drinking and driving? Absolutely.
It will be interesting to see what sort of punishment Lane will serve. He is scheduled for sentencing on August 2nd.
