Ever wonder what would happen if celebrities were to turn the tables on the paparazzi? Would it be anarchy? A Hollywood uprising? No, actually it would just be the makings for another Ashton Kutcher TV show.
The show, titled Pop Fiction and appearing on E!, gives celebrities the opportunity to seek revenge on invasive photographers by setting up fake scenarios as bait for the cameras – think Punk'd, but Hollywood style. You’ll see behind the scenes footage of the celebs and their decoys interacting and laughing at how clever they’re being, but you’ll also explore the sensitive sides of these tenderhearted celebs as they open up about the difficulties of living life under a camera lens.
You can watch the trailer for the show at eonline, and catch a glimpse of Paris Hilton pulling the wool over the eyes of the paps – you might remember pictures of her appearing in public with her so-called Shaman? Yup, those were fake, but we didn’t need this show to tell us that. Diligent reporters dug out the true story, that the shaman was in fact actor Maxie Santillan. Up till now, his biggest moment in the sun was as a side-swashbuckler in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but he’s sure to be getting a lot more face time after his latest bit of acting.
The tagline of the show, delivered mischievously by Paris goes, “Next time you read the tabloids you have to wonder, is it real…or is it Pop Fiction?” The real truth, Paris? When have the paparazzi ever cared whether their pics told a true story? They bring home the same paycheck regardless of whether you’ve actually gone religious or you’re giggling behind your hand and thinking you’ve one-upped them. And it all makes for good magazine fodder - and apparently good TV. Guess what Paris, it’s not the media capitalizing on your fame now…it’s Ashton Kutcher. The rest of us will have to get in line.
