Although we’ve all been guilty of jumping on celebrity bandwagons, from Scientology to Saving the Whales, there is one Hollywood trend that has the general public gagging – smoking.

Just days ago, press was all over Harry Puffer – oops, Daniel Radcliffe – for his foul cigarette habit. The 18-year-old actor who is currently shooting the latest installment in the Potter franchise, The Deathly Hallows, is said to be sucking back 20 cigs a day on set, much to the chagrin and disgust of costars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. He’s also been seen on late nights out with actors Kevin Spacey and Stephen Fry, who may be fostering his bad habits.

Daniel’s not the only young rebel without a cause to have smoking woes. 21-year-old Transformers star Shia LaBoeuf is tangling with the law over his puffing habit. Shia was cited last month for unlawful smoking in a Walgreen’s, and has since failed to show up for his court date, leading police to issue a $1,000 bench warrant for him.

And don’t think young Hollywood’s leading ladies are any better - tough celeb chicks Avril Lavigne, Kiera Knightley and Lindsay Lohan have all been caught puffing on the cancer sticks with a devil-may-care attitude. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Could it be these young stars are using cigarettes to bolster their bad-boy / bad-girl images? Do they actually think smoking is cool (note our hyperbolized shock)? Maybe it’s true what our mothers said – smoking is just a gateway to more bad behavior, and next thing you know you’ll find yourself hooked on the hard stuff and getting pulled in by the cops. Hmm, wait a minute, we’re having a Lindsay Lohan flashback...

Okay, we know that not every young Hollywood smoker is going to end up crack-addicted and in rehab, but we’ve still got a news flash for these cancer-loving kids: Smoking is gross and really, really bad for you. And nobody thinks it’s cool. So butt out already and clean up your act so we can keep on worshiping you.
