Get ready to toast a new celebrity twosome as rumors are flying on a summer wedding for knocked up pop-tart Jamie Lynn Spears and her high school sweetie Casey Aldridge.
As if Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy at age 16 wasn’t enough to fuel the tabloids, news of the wedding is stirring up its own share of scandal. While sources (unnamed of course, but close to the family) are telling People magazine that Jamie Lynn has been happily flaunting a rock on her ring finger and that she’s thrilled about the wedding, the idea of the two teenagers tying the knot is apparently not going over so well around the Spears family table.
Both Spears parents and even big sis Brit are reported to be against the wedding, all feeling it’s a bad idea for the two to get married so young. Smart thinking, we’re thinking – the Spears family probably doesn’t want another Kevin Federline on its hands when things go South.
The most interesting part of this tortured tale is should the two star-crossed lovers decide to go against familial wishes (Romeo and Juliet, anyone?) and get hitched anyway, they may not have a chance to make it down the aisle. Louisiana law dictates that if either party attempting to marry is between the ages of 16 and 18, parental consent must be provided in writing before the marriage can occur.
For Casey, who only narrowly skirted the law when it came to the pregnancy, we doubt he’ll be pushing his luck again with an underage wedding!
We’re surprised to hear ourselves say it, but we may have to go with Britney on the whole wedding coin toss – while the idea of Jamie Lynn and Casey making it official is nice, they’re awfully young for such a big step. They’ve already got a pregnancy on their hands, which is a lot for two teenagers to handle, so maybe it'd be best to tackle one major life event at a time.
