It’s been a while since we’ve done a celebrity showdown post, but with Mariah Carey’s latest chart-topping single "Touch My Body" putting her ahead of Elvis Presley for #1s, we couldn’t resist throwing her in the ring with the King.

We know that true star power is about more than hot singles, so we’ll go three rounds - Sex Appeal, Song Lyrics and Staying Power – and see just who comes out in the top spot!

Sex Appeal

When it comes to sex appeal, it really comes down to three things: who rocks the tight vinyl, who makes more fans weak in the knees and who can shake their booty like there’s no tomorrow.

Mariah Carey: Known for her sultry voice and barely-there wardrobe, Mariah is a sex symbol who has most men (and even some women!) getting all hot and bothered. Whether she’s sporting a plastered-on mini-dress or a loosely draped bed sheet in a video, Mariah has what it takes to make a paper bag look hot.

Elvis Presley: These days sex appeal is a little ho-hum, but back in Elvis’ day, a well-crafted hip thrust could get you into a world of trouble. His racy dance moves put him on the hit list of parents and politicians alike, but that didn’t stop the kiddies from getting all shook up – Elvis was known to send fans into frenzy with just the slightest gyration of a certain vital body part.

For being sexy at a time where it could get you arrested, round one clearly goes to Elvis.

Song Lyrics

It’s easy to stir up libidos when you’re on stage, but who’s got the lyrics to back up their stage show?

Mariah Carey: We’ve got to give credit to Mariah for the success of most of our late-night booty calls. Whether she’s crooning out a ballad like "Without You" or panting her way through a hot number like "Touch My Body", it’s hard to keep your clothes on with a little M.C. in the background.

Elvis Presley: Well…we know it was another time, but what exactly about a hunk of burning love is supposed to get us in the mood? Even Elvis’ love ballads have seen their day, and if we hear the drippy, overplayed melodies of "Can’t Help Falling in Love" one more time, we may never get busy again.

For making us want to get down and dirty with her voice alone, we give round two to Mariah.

Staying Power

Celebrity is not a 100-yard dash, it’s a marathon! So which of these two icons has the greater staying power?

Mariah Carey: Mariah’s been going strong since the age of 20. She’s moved from catchy pop beats, to love ballads, to hip hop collaborations – if it’s current, Mariah’s all over it. She continues to crank out #1s, and aside from a teeny-tiny mental breakdown, has led a pretty model celebrity life.

Elvis Presley: Elvis’ career did not end on a high note, but that hasn’t stopped his music from enduring. His songs are well-known by all generations, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he even has his face on a postage stamp. He’s known as The King of Rock and Roll – enough said.

Since both artists continue to remain in the spotlight, it’s too soon to call this one. The future is still wide open for Mariah, so we'll see if she can do anything to de-throne the King.

The Results

It’s a draw, ladies and gentlemen! Or really, it’s more like our competitors are two such appealing icons in their own right that we don’t want to pick a winner. But wait! Have you looked at the charts lately? It seems the one-and-only Madonna is on top with the release of her latest single, "4 Minutes".

Trust us, if there’s anyone qualified to take on both Mariah and the King in a singer smackdown, it’s Madge – she’ll out-sex and out-gyrate the both of them, and at nearly 50, she’s proven she’ll be rocking the leather body suits and stripper moves till her arthritic limbs just won’t allow it anymore.

And even if you won’t see her songs at number one, chances are they’ll be in the background of the latest iGadget commercials.
