We weren’t sure the world could handle another round of the catfight-classic
Beverly Hills, 90210, but if our favorite (
and fully clothed) young Hollywood starlet Hilary Duff is involved – sign us up!
The formerly squeaky-clean Lizzie McGuire star has been offered a role in the CW’s new incarnation of popular 90s teen drama series, Beverly Hills 90210. According to E!, Hilary would be playing a West Beverly Hills High School student named Annie Mills, who has a penchant for theater and who desperately wants to mix with the “alternative” kids – whatever that means.
This puts 20-year-old Hilary in the angst-ranks of original cast members Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) and Tori Spelling (Donna Martin), creator Darren Star’s hot-tempered divas. Will she be able to live up to the bad-girl attitude that seems to come with the zip code? Well, based on her recent role in John Cusack movie War Inc, where she dropped a scorpion down into her…you know…we’re thinking she’ll do okay!
Hilary (or Anne) would also have an adopted brother named Dixon, with whom she would share a close bond. Ooh, close bond…in 90210-speak, that means there’s probably going to be some serious sparks flying. Relax, they’re only adopted brother and sister!
It’s not confirmed yet whether Hilary has actually accepted the role of Annie Mills, or any role in the show, and both her rep and the CW are waving the “no comment” banner. But if Duff were to sign on, she’d be joining Canadian actor Dustin Milligan, a CW alum who starred in the short-lived series Runaway, and AnnaLynne McCord who played Eden Lord on Nip/Tuck.
You can take a look at more speculative show details on Variety.com, but as of yet, confirmed plot lines and cast members are mostly up in the air. But one thing’s for sure, you can expect lots of trend-talking, YouTube-hosting, emo-listening teenagers getting into all kinds of shenanigans – just like the 90210 days of yore!
