After 14 years of marriage country songstress Shania Twain and her husband Mutt Lange have decided to join several other high profile power couples by settling into Splitsville.
Shania’s rep confirmed the breakup, releasing this statement early this afternoon:
"Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage," says Jason Owen, spokesman for Twain’s record label.
"This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time."
Shania and Mutt tried their hardest to escape the pressures of fame but, like so many other high profile couples, couldn’t make their marriage work in the end.
But what could have been the cause of the breakup? We’re guessing the most insight we’re going to get from the couple themselves is the good old “irreconcilable differences” which ultimately means that fame tore them apart.
And while Shania and Mutt were, at one time, as big as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the couple did an astounding job of keeping their relationship out of the public eye.
Mutt rarely accompanied Shania to high profile events and the couple were practically never seen together outside of the studio.
In fact, performing a Google image search for the term “Shania Twain, Mutt Lange” shows very few photos of the couple together (one being the one shown above) which is next to impossible with the incredible amount of paparazzi these days.
Perhaps the reason Shania, 42, and Mutt, 59, couldn’t make it work was because they tried so hard to keep their relationship private that they never ended up experiencing anything together. You never saw photos of the couple with their 6-year-old don Eja either, which makes us wonder if they even leave their home anymore.
