Rumors have been running rampant that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were expecting their first child together but the couple’s lips were sealed shut on the subject – until now, that is.

Ashlee and Pete have confirmed that Ashlee is indeed pregnant and the couple couldn’t be happier.

The news was confirmed via Pete Wentz’s website, where the dynamic duo left the following message for fans:

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child.

“This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

Speculation that a baby was on the way has been fueling for months but it was the couples May 17th shotgun wedding that confirmed the news in many people’s minds.

And while actual confirmation from the couple makes it clear that the rumors were true all along, we’re pretty sure that anyone with half a brain could have predicted this news.

Regardless, we’re very happy for Ashlee, 23, and Pete, 28 – and we’re sure Tina and Joe Simpson are thrilled too.

In fact, we’re pretty sure that Jessica is also ecstatic to become an aunt for the first time, although the news of little sister Ash’s pregnancy might remind her that her biological clock is ticking too.

We’re happy for the couple but we simply can’t post this news without asking one question:
