Young mom Jamie Lynn Spears is rumored to be giving birth via c-section today, but that’s not the only baby news on the radar. Fellow young mom Charlotte Church is expecting baby number two!
If you don’t remember Charlotte, she was the angelic young songstress who broke into the music scene at the early age of 11 and released her first album Voice of an Angel at 12. Jamie Lynn also got her Hollywood start around the same age, acting in a sketch comedy show called All That before moving on to her famed role on Zoey 101.
Although both of these young women started their careers young, their slight age gap may have lead to a difference in public opinion of their mommy-hood. At 16, news of Jamie Lynn being up the spout was unsurprisingly a bit hard to swallow for Hollywood and the public. On the other hand, Charlotte’s first pregnancy came at the more acceptable age of 21, but with her second bun on the way less than a year after her first baby’s birth, she’s causing a stir of her own.
But despite Jamie Lynn’s age and the rapid-fire baby machine Charlotte Church has become, it’s actually really difficult to find fault with the way these women are leading their celebrity lives. Jamie Lynn has handled her pregnancy with remarkable class, and has kept herself out of the spotlight as much as possible. Charlotte, who went from squeaky clean to skanky rebel during her teen years, has left her so-called party girl ways behind to be a mom to daughter Ruby.
Also, to date all of their babies have an active daddy involved. Jamie Lynn and Casey Aldridge appear to be sticking together, and are even talking marriage (despite rumors of a split), while Charlotte and her baby-daddy Gavin Henson have built a quiet life in South Wales to raise their children.
So what are we supposed to say in criticism? Whatever happened to the good old days, when your late-teen-early-twenties years were used for old-fashioned binge drinking and drunken one-night-stands with every good-looking frat-head who came along?
Not likely.
At least if these young stars are gettin’ bizzay, they’ve got the maturity to handle any repercussions that come along, and may even welcome the chance to settle down outside the spotlight. While we won’t be able to adequately document Jamie Lynn as a parent till her little girl arrives, we say Charlotte’s doing a bang-up job (no pun intended) and makes a great role model.
Oh to be young and cranking out babies again!
