It was an eventful Miss Universe 2008 competition last night, as 80 beautiful women took the stage for the coveted competition. And while Miss USA’s Crystle Stewart seemed like a great candidate to take home the crown, she simply couldn’t stay on her feet long enough for that to happen.
After making the final 10 (alongside Miss Russia, Miss Mexico, Miss Dominican Republic and several others), it was time for the ladies to hit the stage in their flattering evening gowns.

Unfortunately for Stewart, her entrance onto the stage began with a minor slip which quickly turned into a outright fall (paging Rachel Smith, who also fell during the evening gown part of the competition last yeart). But, we have to hand it to the beautiful brunette, she took the tumble as gracefully as any contestant could, getting back on her feet quickly and raising her hands in the air and clapping.
And it didn’t seem as though the judges hit her too hard for her trip – she still received over an 8/10 for the evening gown sector of the competition.
Regardless, Miss USA was eliminated from the competition after the final 10 was narrowed down to the final five.
The final five contestants included Miss Mexico, Miss Russia, Miss Domican Republic, Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela.
A favourite from the beginning, Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, secured first place in the completion, taking home the coveted title of Miss Universe.
The runner-up, Miss Colombia, will be asked to step up should Miss Universe not be able to fulfil her duties (i.e. have provocative photos released of her, admit she has a cocaine problem or decide to make out with other girls on camera while hitting up the clubs).
Congratulations to Miss Venezuela! And our condolences to Miss USA.
