GILLES SHOULD HAVE WON!  HE DESERVES IT MORE MORE THAN SHAWN....I'M REALLY BUMMED WITH THE RESULT,,,THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT DANCING IS'NT IT?

GILLES & CHERYL SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE WINNERS!  SHAWN IS STILL AT THE VERY END LACKS PERSONALITY AND MOST OF ALL STIFF AS A BOARD AND PERFORMANCE WISE ISN'T THAT GREAT.....GILLES & CHERYL DESERVES THAT MIRRORBALL!

This must be one of the biggest upsets in Dancing With The Stars, The trophy belonged to Gilles, Gilles, Gilles he deserved it and by far was the better dancer hands down. The result should be appealed.I am glad I fell asleep before results I would have been very upset.

Gilles has been consistently the best dancer this season.  Melissa and Lil Kim are next.  Shawn should not have won at all if its about dancing.  

Yay! I wanted a girl to win this season! And remember, Cheryl said she'd give her extra trophy to Gilles!

Gilles was definitely the best dancer.... probably the best ever on the show (of non-professionals).  Melissa should have been second.  Shawn was good, but very athletic and not as graceful in her dancing as the others.  Another reason why America should NOT vote!!!  The adults cannot compete with the kids when it comes to texting and voting by cell phone.

How can you say Shawn had the smallest fan base?  That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!  She had the biggest fan base of anyone ever on the show, if you ask me. That's the reason ABC paid her so much money to do the show in the first place! Gilles was a virtual unknown and had NO fan base at all when he came on the show!

Gilles was, by far, the best dancer and proved it every week for 11 weeks. The fanatical Shawn fans who are still upset that she didn't win the "real" gold medal at the Olympics as well as the crazy Mark fans are the only reason Shawn won. She and Mark both know that she wasn't nearly the best dancer and provided absolutely no entertainment. That's the reason they looked like they were going to have a heart attack when their names were announced.

Just because Shawn had more votes, (barely),  does NOT mean she had more people voting for her. The crazy power voting fans of both her and Mark are the only reason they won.  America knows who deserved that trophy, Gilles!  Melissa should have been 2nd and 'Lil Kim 3rd. Shawn wasn't even in the same league, let alone the same ballpark! She should NOT have even been in the finals. She dances like the clod she is. Pathetic!

Yeah biggarou, Shawn "got it done" all right. She became the first person in the history of DWTS who was, on a good day, the 4th best dancer, to take home the mirror ball trophy! The judges should be ashamed of themselves, too. They lowered their standards and totally left out the entertainment value that Gilles, Melissa, and others provided every week, by giving Shawn comparable scores! Also, what happend to the "lift police" last night when Shawn's foot came off the floor in her cha-cha. Carrie Ann didn't miss calling out one lift all season long, but suddenly, last night, she doesn't see it? One less point, and Gilles would have won, as he should have. Shame on the judges, and shame on the stupid Americans who have no idea what they are looking at!

I was a Gilles and Melissa fan all season until the finals.  They just let me down in the freestyle, they didn't do it for me.  For me, being a dancer all throughout high school, this show should always be about dance, and to me Gilles and Melissa's freestyles were more tricks then dance.  I love their dancing, but they didn't showcase it in their freestyle.  I am happy that Shawn won.  Go into Monday Night, I never would have guessed it.  Going into Tuesday, that is how I thought it would end up because of the freestyle.  Shawn grew so much, and yes throughout the season, she wasn't always the best, but in the finals, she was.  Congratulations to Gilles, Melissa, and Shawn!!

i really wanted Gilles to win! I think Shawn did  agood job throughtout the season but I think Gilles was a bit more polished.

Gilles, you deserve to win! Shawn dances like a robot! You are so stiff girl... what a shame to all american voters!

results for shows like this should not be in the hands of the public if they're expected to be taken seriously (and in truth; I don't think they're expecting to be taken seriously)

It's supposed to be a dancing competition, and they have 3 people who (I assume) are recognized dancing judges

why should a few million americans with ZERO experience judging dance know better?

The results were bogus.  If those who voted were really watching GILLES SHOULD HAVE WON.  Shawn was clearly always looking like a gymnist and not a dancer.  I won't watch this show next year, SOOOO DISAPPOINTING.

Shawn deserved this trophy!!!!!! She was really good from the start of this competition. Melissa should have been 2nd and Chuck should have been 3rd. I am really glad that Shawn won. It doesn't matter how big her fan base was she still had the most votes to go on and win the TROPHY!!!!!!! Way to go girl. It was the season to see a girl win and Mark got his trophy back that him and Derek were competing for from the beginning. Hopefully Derek will get his trophy back.

I think they gave Gilles the headsup.  When the judges were going overboard with their comments he made no real reaction as he usually did. I blame DWTS for putting a teenager in the competition.  As my daughter said all the teenagers voted for her for that fact. Teenagers live on their phones.   Before they were not interested in the show.  Also DWTS kept giving her bloated scores.  Gilles was by far the best dancer that DWTS ever had.  Being cheated of the win will probably make Gilles more famous than if he won.  Once before there was a dance off when the outcome was an outrage.  But as she is a teenager, it would be unfair.  This really is a heartbreaker!

Now we know.   It isn't about being best dancer after all!    Clearly Shawn was NOT the best.   The couple who placed second, should have been FIRST!!!

I am not a dancing expert and this was the first reality show I've ever watched in my life.  But I agree that the American Public should not be voting.  Why don't they leave the decision making up to professional dancer/judges.  That way it would be an accurate judgement.  Doesn't matter who won.  I realiezed that reality shows are ridiculous because they let the public vote.  99% of the public know nothing about professional dancing.

I am not happy that Shawn Johnson won last night!  She was clearly NOT the best dancer.  It should have gone to Melissa (my favorite) or to Gilles and Shawn should have come in 3rd.  But this is how these showes "fix" the outcome......by making it impossible to vote for the one you want to win. 48 people in my office and none of them got to vote last night because all you got was a busy signal for the time allotted.  The way they do it is have 100's of lines open for Shawn and very few open for Melissa and Gilles.  This is also what happened when Clay Aiken and Rueben Studdard were the final 2 on "American Idol".  No one could get through to vote for him and he also lost by a very small margin just like Gilles.  Heck Rueben Studdard's mother and brother said they voted vor Rueben over 300 times yet no one could get through to vote for Clay.  Isn't that interesting!?

I wish Gilles has won the trophy.. he deserves it. Shawn doesnt' have the charisma as Gilles or Mellisssa.. Even kim should have won the trophy... Interesting...

I agree with all the people Gilles should have won he was the best all the way through, Gilles you were robbed of the title, Shawn may have the trophy  but she did not earn it, no offence but she may be good as a gymnast but needs lots of training for dancing just like she had for gymnastics.  I will tell you that if Canadian's could have voted Gilles would have won by millions of votes for sure.  YOU WERE ROBBED GILLES YOU ARE THE WINNER.

I am still shaking in distbelieve! I have been a DWTS show since it's inception, however, I don't think I'll watch it again! Gilles by far should be the winner.and Meliissa should be second (I'll not so upset, if it's the other way around, if for some reason they wanted a woman to win!), and I can think of quite a few more deserving to be the third.  As far as I am concern, Shawn should never even be in the final at all. She is stiff, she has no style and no grace.except a cute face. Yes she's young and able to jump up and down, but this is "Dance Competition- Actually Ballroom Dancing" NOT A Acrobatic show!!! Frankly I was shock that the Judges gave her 3 10s for her free style.Do they really call that dancing?

Yes, people should not only blame the stupid public (after all how many Americans, particularly young one really know anything and appreciate the essence of Ballroom Dancing?). The judges were also DID NOT know what the hell there were doing, or have been "Bribed" to do what they did! What a shame!

I have never voiced on any TV shows. But I just can't let this one go without put in my penny worth.

All 3 dancers are very good. But to say that Shawn didnt deserve it is a bit unrealistic. All 3 deserved it and if Shawn didnt deserve to win then she wouldnt have. She obviously had huge fan support because she came in first. WAY TO GO SHAWN

Gilles was great and Iwould have been fine had he won, but i think Shawn took it with the free-style dance! Shawn definitely had the better free style routine!! She worked hard and deserved to winn as much as he did! Those of you blaming it on "the crazy fans" should look at the judges as well - after all they gave Shawn and Gilles EXACTLy the same scores - how 'bout  them apples??/

GILLES SHOULD HAVE WON by far. Gilles is the most deserving and has been the most consistent dancer. He had so much artistry, passion and chemistry in all of his dances..So sad, very sad that he did not win.

I started watching DWTS by accident, I happened to see the outfits and the moves and grinding going on and I just kept on watching because I recognized some of the stars. I  wonded why are these people who can't dance suffering with this and in some cases really looking foolish! I am hooked now, because my STARS keep coming back for more. Later I could feel the fun, see the hard work and yes the stones turning to jewels and some to diamonds. This year right from the first dance I thought Shawn was at a disadvantage, because she would be uncomfortable with the organ grinding moves and would not do them, and I think I was right. She had to win by DANCING!!!! I know the adult moves are part of dancing, but a 17 year old did win without them and did it with CLASS. I give Shawn the GOLD, my wife would give it to Gilles, NEXT.

GILLES SHOULD HAVE WON THE TROPHY, NO DOUBT!  What a great disappointment that the best celebrity dancer, DWTS ever had since Season 1 didn't win.  I've been an avid fan of the show from day one.  But if it's going to be like this again, I don't feel like watching it next season.  It was unfair that Gilles didn't get the trophy after being the best ever.  I agree with S saying, "GILLES SHOULD HAVE WON. All of his dances with Cheryl was a joy and pleasure to watch.  I was a bit annoyed at Bruno and Carrie Anne for having given Gilles only 9 on his free style dance.  He should have received 3 "10" on that dance, as well.

They were all wonderful - I just loved Shawn the best.  Gilles was a natural dancer and great to watch, Melissa had previous dance training and was also great to watch - I believe Shawn overcame A LOT to be special and I found myself rooting for her with no reason other than I think she deserved it.  Gut reaction.  For the folks who said the voting was rigged, that you couldn't get through when you called - the same thing happened to me when I tried 2 different weeks to vote for Shawn, and I never did get through.  And I am 37, not 17.   It is a reality show - and we all know those are based on viewer interest. They started with Steve Wojniak and STEVEO - hello!  IF YOU WANT A STRICTLY BALLROOM CONTEST, TUNE INTO  PBS.    Shawn was great.  Get over it.

All three finalist deserved to win. In the end it came down to preference and popularity. Shawn never made a mistake.  Every dance was precise, energetic and yes-age appropriate!  Gilles is sexy, an excellent performer and dancer, Melissa had many quality dances.  What purpose does it serve to put any of the dancers down.  I've seen many of my favorites come and go, I am just happy to watch a show that features dancing and a bit of foolishness - what's not to like!

Gosh, I've been upset all last night and all day today. I voted and pray for Gilles to win because he's by far the best dancer of all the stars since day one. I think the judges should be the one deciding who the winner is. Competitions where America votes is always rigged. Shawn has all the big time companies behind her back, since when she medaled from the Olympics. Gilles's the underdog and I just feel so bad for him because he deserves it way more. It should have been Gilles 1st, Melissa 2nd, Lil' Kim 3rd, and maybe Shawn somewhere after that. I want a recounttt... :(

I have been watching DWTS since it started, and I must say this is the second time I have been disappointed in the results. As far as I could see Gilles was the winner of this competition, and if you had listen closely to the judges comments I believe deep down they also thought Gilles was the overall winner of this competition. I must admit it is decisions like this that make the show hard to watch at times. I would say that for this season the 3 finialist to me were the best ever.

Crybabies. Shawn kicked ass. Get over it.

Giles  was robbed! What a pity. Shawn is sweet, cute and stiff(as a dancer). I followed DWTS for the first time this season.

I will not watch the show the same way again.

Even Melissa (and, yes, little Kim) were more grace than Shawn.

It must have been the teenager's technological skills (especially) with texting.  Frankly, I can not even text but I do recognize a graceful winner when I see one. This year, the winner certainly should have been Giles.

Perhaps to keep more viewers interested, the judge's vote should weigh more  than the public. After all, the judges are the experts. If not, why have judges score the dances at all or even be a part of the show?

So disappointing... especially for Giles!

Gilles was ROBBED!  The only reason to watch the show this season was to see him dance with Cheryl.  Shawn is a "tree trunk with legs and arms" and a fake smile.  PLEASE!  They need to recount and give the rightful winner his trophy.  Gilles was the class of the show, and  all know it.  A RE-COUNT IS CALLED FOR.

Sorry to say Norma-Jean but Canadians COULD vote. I asked Gilles and he said we could. I did!

Gilles deserved to win the trophy.  In my opinion, Shawn shouldn't have even been in the finals, much less win it!  It should have been Lil Kim, Melissa and Gilles competing for the trophy.  I could have lived with Melissa winning, but Shawn being named the champion just made a joke out of the whole season.

When Melissa took third, I was shocked.  But when they announced that Shawn & Mark won, that was just ridiculous.  Even the judges knew and said that Gilles was the best dancer.  Mark Ballas fell over in shock when they announced Shawn's name.  Now if that doesn't say something, I guess nothing does!  

Shawn was a good dancer, but no way did she deserve to win.  I think I'm going along with most of the other comments and saying that I may not even watch next season!  VERY disappointing and VERY unbelievable.  No way did she deserve to win.

Gilles should have won as he truly was the better dancer.  Shawn is also very good but she is more of a gymnast than a dancer.  Gilles has it all and I must say I am very disappointed in the outcome.  I may not watch DWTS next season.

Shawn was the absolute best the last couple weeks.  I started as a Gilles and Kim fan but couldn't help but choose Shawn.  I called for1.5 hours and only was able to get one call through for her.  Gilles could not perform all the dances.  His freestyle wasn't good and that pretty much seals the deal.  Melissa made visible mistakes several times throughout the performances. Shawn never made a mistake the entire season which is not something the other contestants can say.  Shawn was the best!!!!!!!

The results of this show were obviously a travesty.  I guess that many people feel 'frustrated' from a sense of 'unfairness' or an 'undeserved' result.  Yes, Gils was the best dancer.  Melissa was a close second with LIl Kim third.  The real winner of the show wasn't really Shawn or Gilles.  In fact, by putting a 17 year old  with a cute chipmunk face and a fireplug body, not too mention that she looked about 12 years olds, the real winner is the show itself.  Why?  DWTS expanded their audience appeal and demographic to include teens.  

I agree with other posters that the judges gave Shawn 'bloated' scores for her performances including stiff, gymnastic arm movement and poor footwork.  Perhaps her Olympian status and young appearance made it difficult for the judges to be very critical of her performances.  

Though the voting system is clearly a joke, I've lost more respect for the judges with the bloated scores that they gave Shawn for her performances.  I can't speak for anyone else, but this was the first and least season of DTWS that I will ever watch.

Gilles is the best non-professional dancer I've ever watched on the show.  Since this is about dancing,  voters (fans) should not have 50% of the final decision.  He tried so hard every week and yet was defeated in the final and it's not even based on his performance.  That really sucks!!  I'm gald that Cheryl said that "no matter what the outcome is, he is still the winner".  I would say the same.  Creidts should be given to Cheryl as well, she's a great instructor, dance partner and looks like a person that can be a good friend too.  II was so disappointed with the result that I am having seond thought of watching the show next season.

Gilles is the clear winner, no one else. What a 1 percent difference?  that's rediculous result. There should be a big difference percent of the result. But he was robbed.

"Huge Fan Support" is great. . .if that's what counts in a dancing competition, but it's NOT!!  A dance competition's winner should be the BEST DANCER throughout the season.

It's obvious this season was doomed:

Ty (as sweet and gentlemanly as he was) should have been DQed in the first couple of weeks, yet he remained and outlasted L'il Kim, who should have been in the finale.

Gilles, without a doubt is the rightful winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy. . .yet the public went with who they liked, instead of the best dancer.  Although in the public's defense, they didn't want to see that Gilles was better throught the season.

In my opinion, if these reality shows feel they must have the public doing the voting (in order to keep ratings), then they should also decide to let the REAL judges pick the winner in the finale.  They will hopefully decide on their talent and not who is the more popular one.

I do think Shawn did a good job, but part of the final 3. . .NO.  As I said before, the final 3 should have included L'il Kim - along with Gilles and Melissa.

Anyway, this is just my opinion and glad to have this opportunity to voice it - as ONE of MANY!!

I'm still mad at this! Gilles should have won. i dont care about the freestyle...if u look at ALL his dances then look at Shawns you'll see the real winner. so what if her freestyle was better. this is BALLROOM dancing..she does better on the freestyle and Gilles does better on what the show is for! i honestly dont think I'll watch it next year....it's becoming  str8 bullsh*t!

I am saddened and after several days remain in shock by the results. I feel sick inside to think that if children are allowed to dominate the voting for such a show as dancing with the stars that must also be an insult to all professional ballroom dancers everywhere. Gilles is the winner and I think one day Shawn as an adult will feel some remorse for accepting that trophy.

Definitely disappointing results. Still can't believe Gilles was not the winner. Shawn has to know who really deserved to win.

I couldn't believe my ears when Shawn was announced the winner.  She's cute, charming and a little dumpling in the sexy outfits. Sure, I know, she's only 90 pounds but the outfits mader her look dumpy and chubby.  I respect her gymnastic abilities, and although she's kinda cute doing ballroom, she does not have the presence or the body type to be a gifted ballroom dancer.  Both Gilles and Melissa were were better all around.  I was so disappointed I didn't even watch the final episodes that I recorded on my PVR.  I really don't mean any offense to Shawn but this was a travesty.  The results showed popularity not talent.  Maybe DWTS should do what Big Brother did, quit allowing the viewing public to decide who wins.  How did Gilles not win?!

Good point Puffy. I didn't realize Big Brothers did that. I think that would be the best move. How though do we get Gilles a trophy. Cough it up Shawn.

Tonight will seem very sad, I will miss watching Gilles.

For all you folks who say Giles is the best dancer ever on DWTS, not true.  There have been a number os dancers who were better than he was.  Also while a part of the criteria for DWTS is how the stars progress and become better dancers that is not and never was the entire purpose of the show.  The public votes on the "entertainment" value of the dancers and since the majority of the public does not know the technical side of the dances they are supposed to vote for the dancer who entertains them the most and that's what they did.  Shawn may not have been the best technical dancer in the show but she entertained the public the best and therefore she won.  Everyone has their favorites and we all want them to win but dishing someone because you favorite did not win is pretty tacky.  Move on.
