Last night’s highly anticipated finale of Dancing with the Stars was filled with excitement, shock and even disappointment for some. If you missed the finale last night and woke up asking yourself “who won Dancing with the Stars last night” you might surprised at what you find out.
While many thought the final two would be former Bachelor contestant Melissa Rycroft and actor/model Gilles Marini , 17-year-old gymnast Shawn Johnson came from behind and stole the spotlight – and the mirror ball trophy – last night.

That’s right, the Olympic gymnast who probably had one of the smallest fan bases going into this competition and was relatively unknown to most Americans, grabbed the hearts (and votes) of millions and secured the title of Dancing with the Stars Winner 2009.
Melissa Rycroft – a favorite to win from the very beginning - took 3rd place while Gilles Marini lost the title by a mere 1 percent of votes, leaving him in second.
There’s no doubt that Shawn Johnson improved over the course of the competition – with the help of her professional dance partner Mark Ballas (who we still think has a thing for the 17-year-old blonde), but was she the most deserving of the final three last night?
We can’t help but have flashbacks of last year’s finale between Melanie B and Helio Castroneves where Melanie B was the clear winner but Helio took home gold.
So let us know what you think of the results – who should have won Dancing with the Stars 2009?
