Jon and Kate Gosselin confirmed their intent to divorce on the June 22 episode of the hit series Jon and Kate Plus 8.
The 1-hour special featured one-on-one time with both parents where each had the chance to let everyone know how they’ve been dealing with the struggles over the past 6 months. With 5 minutes remaining in the episode, a black screen appeared with white writing that informed viewers that on June 22nd Jon and Kate Gosselin filed papers in a Pennsylvania court terminating their 10 year marriage.
While news of a divorce probably won’t come as a shock to loyal fans of the show, the parents’ decision to continue filming for TLC and agreeing to more episodes of Jon and Kate Plus 8 will.
Many thought that the Gosselins would confirm their divorce and also confirm that the show would end so they could work on putting their family back together without the cameras following their every move.
Many (including Kate’s brother Kevin and his wife Jody) would also argue that their decision to keep filming could severely affect the well-being of their children in the future. They’ve made their money (enough to last a lifetime, probably) but all the money in the world can’t protect these children from the effects of being in the public eye since they were born.
Do you think Jon and Kate made the right decision to continue the show – or do you think they need to take a break from the spotlight?
