OK Magazine Michael Jackson Cover Picture Sparks Controversy!

OK Magazine has never been one to back down from controversial headlines and questionable photos but their new issue covering the death of Michael Jackson has been named by some (MSNBC in particular) as "a whole new low."

OK Magazine Michael JacksonThe Magazine has decided to release the new issue with a cover photo of Jackson in a stretcher, allegedly already dead. Because it was confirmed that Michael had passed away before arriving at teh hospital, it's easy to draw to the conclusion that Michael was dead in the photo.

Despite the uproar of criticism surrounding the cover photo (seen left), editorial director of OK magazine Sarah Ivens released the following statement:

“It’s a photo that captures the surprise and the upset and the moment of this breaking news story . . . I hope the cover will provoke readers. It celebrated the man, but it also does expose that he was an eccentric character who lived a very controversial life.”

Take a look at the cover shot and let us know if you think the magazine went too far this time...

I don't think it was in good taste placing such a picture on the cover of a major magazine. To place ratings &  morbid cravings as priority was poor judgement. Did it ever cross anyone's mind just  how much pain this would cause his family or his children if they ever saw this. Everyone must take responsibility for what we do & think before acting, as the results affects others.

What the hell is going on with the media? I know MJ was a controversial figure but putting someone who was dead (whoever else it COULD have been) on the front of a magazine???!

You're sick, very sick - You never did that with Jade Goody so why the hell do it with Michael Jackson?

You have GOT to be kidding! How DARE you! This is the worst idea this magazine could have come up with and the person that sold the photo is just as deplorable. How do you sleep at night? You hope it will provoke people? So do I, enough to stop supporting your magazine! You have to know that the family is already dealing with a mountain of grief. Did you even think to protect his children from this? Not just his children but children all over the world who will see this. I already have the answer to that. There should be a special place in hell for people like you! I can promise you that NOT ANOTHER DIME of my hard earned money will go to you or any of your affiliates and I call on other's to follow. As of right now, my subscription is CANCELLED! You make me SICK!

Putting a dead person on the cover of a major magazine is sick. I don't care who it is.

I think it is horrible to "honor" a legend by showing him at the worse possible time.
