There’s been much controversy surrounding the life and death of music icon Michael Jackson and since the tragic incident two weeks ago, media coverage has hit an all-time high.
Yesterday, US Weekly released unseen footage of Michael Jackson’s 1984 Pepsi commercial where he was severely burned in a pyrotechnic accident that took place during filming.
The footage, which can be seen on US Weekly's website or in the video shown below, shows the singer’s hair caught on fire for a good few seconds before crew members rush to Jackson’s assistance. The magazine goes on to speculate that this incident sparked Jackson’s pill addiction, which caused him grief for years leading up to his death.
Whether or not the incident had anything to do with Michael’s lifelong addiction remains unknown (and probably always will) but it does offer insight as to the difficulties he faced as a singer.
