Mischa Barton played the role of Marissa Cooper for three seasons on The OC and it appears the struggles her character faced with drugs and lies are mimicking her real-life difficulties off-screen as well.

Yesterday, Mischa’s rep confirmed that the 23-year-old actress had been hospitalized under doctor recommendations and is resting well.

While her rep refused to comment any further, Hollywood reports claim that Barton had been committed to a pysch ward after a downward spiral of out of control drinking and partying. Many reports even claim that the young actress is on suicide watch.

A friend of Barton reportedly told people that she’s “a party girl [who] never truly distanced herself from that."

This isn’t the first time Mischa has been hospitalized for “personal issues.”

In May of 2007 Barton was hospitalized after ‘feeling ill’ at a friend’s BBQ. About 7 months later, in December of 2007, the actress was arrested for DUI, marijuana possession and driving without a license. She pleaded no contest to the charges and was subsequently sentenced to 3 years probation.

There’s no denying that Mischa has had her fair share of ups and downs over the years (much like her character Marissa) but hopefully she’s on the road to recovery.
