Watching the actual video of Ms. Stone's utterly thoughtless and crass comments brought quite a nauseous sensation to my stomach. Particularly since this absolutely 'natural' earthquake (and the resulting catastrophe which followed) took the lives of so many children - whose only crime BTW against Stone's hero the Dali Lama was being in school at the time when the quake hit.

The earthquake happens in a poor region of China. A lot of victims are Buddhists and many are superstitious. They are innocent people and they are suffering deep. To the victims, karma implies the reason that they suffer is because they did sinful things in their previous life, and they will go to hell in their next life. Instead of providing psychological supports, Sharon Stone is putting the salts into the deep wounds of the earthquake victims. By saying those words, she is showing that she is anything but a reasonable human being.

It is fashionable to attack China nowadays, no matter how groundless of those tacks. Sharon Stone's comments happened to be just out of the bound this time. Should we all think carefully about how much we really know about Tibet? Is Dalai Lama really good for Tibet? Even assuming Dalai Lama, who was chosen according to be the ruler in the Tibetan Buddhism in the early 1930s, could still play a constructive role in the modern Tibetan society, how many people in Tibet really want to have him as a political leader? Is Tibetan Buddhism itself the thing that held the Tibetan society back from becoming a modern society"
