Remember when you were little and you used to spend hours going through your mom's closet playing dress up with her pointy shoes, plaid skirts and ruffled tops? Then you grew up a little bit and probably thought  you would never be caught dead in any of the things you used to try on - am I right? Well I used to do this and let me tell you, the mere thought of having to wear those items to be in style this fall scares me - it scares me a lot.

I was actually looking at my mom yesterday and couldn't believe what I saw. I always look at what everyone's wearing - it's a bad habit but it happens nonetheless. Anyways, I was looking at my mom and realized that her pants were extremely tapered at the botton. They were tight at the top and even tighter at the bottom. My breath started getting short and I felt myself shaking a little. It had just occured to me that my mom is more stylish right now than I am! My worst nightmare had come true.      

I made a vow to myself that I would never purchase a pair of skinny jeans. So now I found myself looking endlessly through the top fashion magazines, browsing my favorite stores and surfing the internet for alternative styles this season. Well let me tell you - I was even more scared than I originally thought. Skinny jeans are one thing but leggings - are you kidding me? What is wrong with the fashion industry this year. Shrugs were bad enough last year but this is just ridiculous. So I can choose from either skinny jeans or leggings? I refused to stop looking! There's gotta be a good trend out there somewhere.

I thought I would veer away from the lower half of the body and maybe look for some accessories or something that I could at least play up my wardrobe with. If nothing else, you can always count on accessories to make you look good, right? WRONG! I went into my favorite store, looked on all the spinning accessory racks and you know what I saw? Headbands, leg warmers and knee high socks! I was absoultely appalled! I can't believe these are the fashion accessories we have to choose from. It is the 21st century, not 1973.

We are supposed to be evolving with fashion trends, coming up with new and innovative ways to express ourselves through our clothing. Instead, we are reviving old trends that make us look ridiculous.

There's a reason these trends went out of style people, come on!
