Are You (Red)y to Give?

Many of us live a very priviledged life which can sometimes distract us from the tragedies going on in other parts of the world. I love fashion and I can't imagine not shopping for high end labels on a regular basis but thanks to (Product) RED, there's a way to shop while making a significant difference in the world. It's really easy and many of the world's largest, most reputable companies have decided to take part in (Product) RED.

Before I start talking about the amazing labels taking part in the program and the incredible merchandise you can purchase from this program, I want to let you know how the program works.

First off, lets dicuss the name of the program. (Product) RED is any company who is willing to take part in this amazing company. Once they agree to donate a portion of certain products sold, they become "embraced" and the company is then elevated to the power of RED. Once the company is elevated to the power of RED, they can trademark their name in parenthesis with the word "RED" following afterwards. For example, when Gap decided to enroll in the foundation, they were able to sell the specified products with the trademard (Gap) RED.

(RED) was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver and is designed to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund. By working with iconic brands like Gap, Giorgio Armani, Converse, Apple and Motorola, (RED) can make a difference in the world. A portion of each (RED) product sold will go towards buying and distributing anti-retroviral medicine to people suffering from AIDS in Africa.

Some of the products include everything from cell phones and iPods to shirts, credit cards and jewelry. A t-shirt from Gap and an exclusive Emporio Armani watch by Giorgio Armani can be seen below:

So next time you decide to go shopping for a shirt, watch, cell phone or other fashionable product, embrace the power of (RED) and do your part to make a difference in the world.

The selection's not that great yet, though what they've got looks pretty cool. And people are gonna buy Giorgio, Gap and Armani anyway, so some of it might as well go to a good cause. I have a friend who loves buying red clothes and accessories so I can see her having a field day with this one. If they get more out before Christmas it might give me some gift ideas...
