Style Watch - Dark Nail Polish

Dark nail polish is the biggest trend of the season. So many celebrities have been seen wearing dark nail polish and the trend has quickly spread to millions of women all over the world. So what brought upon the sudden interest in dark nail polish? It could be variety of different things. Ad campaigns, television shows and a sudden interest in 80's fashion have played a key role in the recent interest in dark nail polish.

Let's go back in time a little, circa 1994 when Chanel released their first ultra-dark nail polish color called "Vamp." This inspired many designers to produce super dark nail polish and the trend quickly dominated the fashion industry. Like most trends, the style went out for about a decade and a half and has just recently shown up on the scene again this year.

Although many celebrities are opting for the black nail polish, mainstream individuals are choosing slightly more subtle dark tones like purple, burgandy and forest green. While some people can pull off the trend and look stunningly gorgeous, others are somewhat hesitant to try such a drastic change in color. Personally, I think the trend looks amazing on women with slightly "pudgier" fingers for lack of a better word. If you're like me and have long, skinny fingers, then dark nail polish kind of makes them look witch-like. That's just my opinion though, it's definitely worth trying.

Some of the famous celebrities choosing to sport dark nail polish include Jessica Simpson, Mischa Barton, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and Hilary Duff. These, among many other Hollywood celebrities are choosing to darken their style with deep hues.

What do you think - are you a fan of the style or do you think it's a little over the top for everyday events?

This is true for me. Dark polish makes my nimble fingers appear much longer and more elegant, but I have to apply it really carefully, or just go get a manicure. because it never looks right when I do it.

Another tip I've read about in the October issue of Cosmo, is to wear nailpolish that matches your skin tone. his casts the illusion that your fingers are longer than they are as well.
