After a long (and what seemed to be somewhat boring) cycle of America's Next Top Model, Caridee was finally crowned as the new top model last night. After Eugena was eliminated halfway through the show, the two remaining contestants (Caridee and Melrose) competed for the title. While the two girls look quite similar, their personalities were completely different. And while the judges clearly thought Melrose was the better model, Caridee was the last one standing.
I've been watching America's Next Top Model since the very first cycle and there's one thing that really bothers me about the show. We all know Tyra didn't have the easiest childhood and has definitely overcame a lot of obstacles throughout her life which seem to play a key factor in her final decision each year.
Think back to almost every cycle. In the initial casting stages, most of the girls that were chosen to compete had some kind of sob story to tell. Whether it was their families being poor, they had lost a loved one or they just didn't have a good childhood - they all had something to complain about. Now don't get me wrong, I feel bad for those people and I think they are extremely strong for overcoming the obstacles in their lives but they shouldn't be given special treatment or exclusive opportunities because of the things that have happened to them.

It seems to me, that Tyra often chooses girls who have had struggled the most in their lives.
Does this make them better models - no. And some of the girls are sent home because they don't show emotion when really, maybe they just don't want to complain about their lives like some of the other girls.
I think last night was a clear indication of Tyra's need to help people who have struggled - which isn't a bad thing but shouldn't be the focus of this show.
Maybe she should start another show where she helps struggling girls, but they shouldn't be named ANTM just because of their situation. The judges clearly stated that Melrose was the better model (throughout the whole show) and that Caridee was "a loose cannon" but ultimately she won and Melrose didn't.
Do you agree with the judges? Was Caridee the better model of the two girls left standing last night?
