Caridee Wins America's Next Top Model

After a long (and what seemed to be somewhat boring) cycle of America's Next Top Model, Caridee was finally crowned as the new top model last night. After Eugena was eliminated halfway through the show, the two remaining contestants (Caridee and Melrose) competed for the title. While the two girls look quite similar, their personalities were completely different. And while the judges clearly thought Melrose was the better model, Caridee was the last one standing.

I've been watching America's Next Top Model since the very first cycle and there's one thing that really bothers me about the show. We all know Tyra didn't have the easiest childhood and has definitely overcame a lot of obstacles throughout her life which seem to play a key factor in her final decision each year.

Think back to almost every cycle. In the initial casting stages, most of the girls that were chosen to compete had some kind of sob story to tell. Whether it was their families being poor, they had lost a loved one or they just didn't have a good childhood - they all had something to complain about. Now don't get me wrong, I feel bad for those people and I think they are extremely strong for overcoming the obstacles in their lives but they shouldn't be given special treatment or exclusive opportunities because of the things that have happened to them.

It seems to me, that Tyra often chooses girls who have had struggled the most in their lives.

Does this make them better models - no. And some of the girls are sent home because they don't show emotion when really, maybe they just don't want to complain about their lives like some of the other girls.

I think last night was a clear indication of Tyra's need to help people who have struggled - which isn't a bad thing but shouldn't be the focus of this show.

Maybe she should start another show where she helps struggling girls, but they shouldn't be named ANTM just because of their situation. The judges clearly stated that Melrose was the better model (throughout the whole show) and that Caridee was "a loose cannon" but ultimately she won and Melrose didn't.

Do you agree with the judges? Was Caridee the better model of the two girls left standing last night?

I was happy with the outcome of this season- which I can't say for the last few season - note the failure of Kaylen, Nic and Joni- robbed of the title which I believe should be theirs.

While I do agree that Tyra et al does NOT pick top models, and seems to focus too much on personality or background ( the shows where the models have to "feel" their emotions and end up crying or screaming make me uncomfortable) but I believe hands down that Melrose should not have won.

She was too robotic, too fake, and I thought she was boring. Just look at last judging- Caridee's tears were from a real place- then Melrose says "oh you are going to make me cry" but her eyes are dry- that's what is so OFF about her- she knows what she SHOULD be saying or doing, but it's just not real. The only time she showed real emotion on the show is when she failed at something she thought she should have won. Her inflated sense of her own abilities was also irksome.

Bottom line: Caridee and Melrose had great pictures but they went with the "loose cannon" because that has more feeling behind it, more personality, and it makes them more appealing to the public. If Tyra wants to make her models an inspiration to others, then Caridee was the better choice.

I was very happy with the choice the judges made. Caridee was genuine and authentic. She appears to be good natured, fun loving ang carefree. Melrose was a fake she is like a computer, just input what you want her to do and she will do it. Nothing is real about Melrose, she appears to be cold and unapporachable.

I LOVE CARIDEE! I was so excited to watch the final show andI swear to god I was jumping up and down screaming... she is so amazing and deserved to win 100%! I hated Melrose, I mean she was the one who was so full of herself... she was always like me, me me! Come on... she was such a pore loser too! Cari just has a certain thing about her that says model/actress and she has such a great heart and attitude that no one ever, on any of the americas next top models, deserved it more than CariDee! She is the only model I have liked that has ever won and I knew she would! OH MY... I love her so much!

I think the outcome of this season's ANTM was as it should be. I personally think we should stop rewarding the girls who act like they are better than everyone else. Melrose is ,without a doubt, a very beautiful girl but, she is a ***! Heidi, Tyra, Giselle....they are all bombshells but very down to earth people. I saw Heidi Klum on one of Tyra's episodes on her talk show and was amazed at some of the things she said because she was kind of a tomboy. She is hilarious though. My point is Caridee had a sense of humor, Melrose didn't....she thought she was gonna win and that she had it "in the bag". Caridee totally bombed on the final challenge but her pictures were better, her attitude was better, and Tyra liked her better and so did I.

I'm not sure they did this on purpose (I don't know when the taping ended compared to when the show began to air) but they villainized Melrose throughout the entire season. I suspect image is everything in that industry. So, regardless of her ability they edited the entire show with her portrayed as the whiny villian.
I don't know if that played in to the final decision or if the show was just edited to make us root against Melrose.
