Miss America Pageant - Tonight on CMT

The annual edition of Miss America is set to air at 8 o'clock tonight on CMT and will be hosted by none other than the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Mario Lopez. Yes, you did read it correctly - Country Music Television will be hosting this year's exciting competition between 52 of USA's most talented and beautiful women. The Miss America competition is held every year, usually in January, and is judged on talent, looks and personality. Last year's winner, Jennifer Berry of Oklahoma, will be handing over her crown to the winner of tonight's pageant.

The Miss America Pageant has always been mistaken for the Miss USA pageant but they are not the same competition at all. In fact, there are a number of key differences between the Miss USA and the Miss America pageants. First of all, the controversy surrounding Tara Conners over the past few months is related to the Miss USA pageant, not Miss America.

Read below to find out other differences between Miss USA and Miss America:

  • Miss America was started before Miss USA, although much of the popularity has shifted towards miss USA over the years.
  • Miss America is one of the largest scholarship organizations ever created for young women.
  • The two competitions are judged very differently. Miss America is judged 40 percent on talent and the rest on interviews, the evening gown and the swimsuit. Miss USA does not have a talent competition at all and is based primarily on looks and interviewing skills. Miss USA is judged 33 percent on the interview, 33 percent on evening gown and 33 percent on swimsuit.

Don't Miss tonight's competition tonight at 8/7C time on CMT. For a complete list of this year's contestants go to CMT.com.
