Red lips were the dominant beauty trend at this year’s Academy Awards. Lips were painted in everything from ruby red to deep berry hues; the colors were classic and very matte.

Select a shade of red that will flatter your skin tone. If your skin is cool, choose a blue- based red, if you have warm skin, try an orange based red. Berry shades can also give you a dramatic lip and they can be a lot easier to wear than a true red hue. Always apply a liner when using a dark or bright red shade, it will help the color last longer and it will prevent the color from bleeding outside your lip line. Apply the lipstick directly from the tube with a lip brush, blot, then reapply color. This process will ensure that your lipstick will last all night long.
