The new crop of summer fragrances are due to hit stores in the next few months and this year the selection is better than ever! We spritzed and sniffed our way through all the new scents to determine which fragrances are must haves this spring.
When the weather heats up, fragrances tend to lighten up, and this year's limited edition summer scents and all over body splashes are no exception. In the summer, fragrance lines release lighter versions of their popular scents - you could end up loving these more than the originals!
One significant trend stood out this season - many new fragrances have crisp notes of citrus and fruit; orange flowers and blossoms are making a comeback. For example, Marc Jacobs Orange is a light and refreshing splash, and features top notes of bergamot, mandarin, neroli, and tamarind, middle notes of lush summer flowers like watermint, freesia, and white rose, and bottom notes of moss, tonka bean, amber, musk and blonde woods. Other fresh and fruity concoctions available this spring/summer include Ralph Rocks and Miss Sixty Flower Power.
For those who love more traditional notes like rose, you're in luck! The rose is back with a vengence, but the new scents won't leave you smelling like your grandma. The new rose is classic and dewy, not powdery; the fragrances are classic and extremely feminine. If you love the scent of roses then check out Vera Wang's Truly Pink or Valentino's Rock n' Rose.
For men, there are several exciting new fragrance launches; Nautica's Island Voyage, Instinct by David Beckham, Calvin Klein's Eternity for Men Summer, and Kenneth Cole's R.S.V.P.

Toronto Fashion Week is a showcase for Canadian design talent and this year the event compelled some fashion insiders to head north for the festivities.

America's Next Top Model judge and stylist, Nole Marin, was spotted front row and center last Tuesday night at the invitation only Mackage runway show, and at several other events throughout the week.
Think Fashion did manage to catch up with him briefly after the Mackage show. He didn't have much time for more than a quick hello, but he did say he was having a great time in Toronto - and so were we!
Marin was a judge on America's Next Top Model for the earlier cycles, and has since been replaced with Ms. J Alexander. As a part of the ANTM panel, the talented stylist stood out as being more sympathetic than some of the other, openly negative, judges.
For Canada's Next Top Model Cycle Two, new host, Jay Manuel, has chosen Marin to join the show as its Creative Director. Nole will essentially be taking on the role that Manuel himself performs on the original, American version of the show.
Other judges for Canada's Next Top Model include Jeanne Beker, acclaimed fashion journalist, Supermodel Yasmin Warsame, and celebrity photographer,Paul Alexander.

Mackage design duo Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy's new fall collection was presented at an invitation only event during Toronto's Fashion Week earlier this month. This year, their easy- to- wear, urban inspired outerwear line was expanded to include a collection of cosy knitwear.

The classic Mackage style was more streamlined this season; visual interest could be found in dramatic scarf collars, tucks and pleats, and volume details in the sleeves.
Models were sent down the runway in matching black bob wigs, and identical makeup making each girl indistinguishable from the next - much like the clothes. While the collection was wearable and classic, the looks blended together with little or no difference between each piece.
All in all, the collection was full of classic pieces that women will love to wear.

The innovative newcomer, Lucian Matis, showed his stunning first collection, La Douce Absinthe, during Toronto Fashion Week; the collection was both visionary and incredibly artistic - an absolute feast for the eyes!

The collection is a combination of high end couture and ready to wear; when so many designers opted for minimalism this fall, Matis went for a provocative, and creative look that brought drama back to the runway.
The looks were eccentric and eclectic; a truly interesting mix of textures, details, embroidery, and fabrics. The runway was full of corsets, lace, brocades, bustles, layered skirts, and dramatic sleeves.
Ornate opulance was the theme of this show, it was more Paris couture than Toronto ready to wear. But, it was an exciting show - Lucian Matis is ready to take the world by storm!

Izzy Camilleri showed her edgy designs last Thursday during Toronto Fashion Week; her collection was definitely one of the most exciting and innovative shows of the entire week.

The presentation itself was without flaw, everything from the black plexiglass runway, to the body pounding beats emanating from the speakers got everyone ready for the edgy, rock and roll inspired designs.
And Izzy did not disappoint. Once the show began, models in sleek, figure-hugging, and glossy clothes began to barrel themselves down the runway, keeping in perfect time with the music.
Izzy fans feasted their eyes on mink and raccoon bubble coats, (she's known for her fur- in The Devil Wears Prada, Meryl Streep wore a red and black dyed fox coat designed by Izzy), patent leather trench coats, metallic dresses, and sleek leather pants.
The show ended with a sequin series that took the '80s inspired theme one step further - the copper sequin kite dress was Izzy's nod to glitz and glam.
The collection as a whole was hard, strong, and undeniably sexy!

Pink Tartan's fall 2007 runway show was one of the highlights of Toronto Fashion Week; the exclusive, invite only event was jam packed with Canadian fashion insiders.

For the lucky few with reserved seats, (Think Fashion had two!), the show's one hour delay posed no problem, but there was no rest for some weary feet; if you weren't on the list, it was standing room only. Pink Tartan loving fashionistas clad in the highest of high heels began to curse their beloved Manolos and Jimmy Choos.
Even Canadian fashion diva, Jeanne Beker - chic and fabulous in a fur trimmed black suit - couldn't take it anymore; the minute the doors opened, she brushed past less important fashion journalists (like me!) and made a beeline for her front row seat.
Despite the slow, and somewhat rocky start, the collection ended up being worth the wait. The stone faced models walked out in incredibly wearable designs that brought new meaning to the term "ready to wear."
Great seperates, easy to wear knits, and gorgeous outerwear made up most of the collection -with each piece being more wearable than the last. Short mini dresses in metallic fabrics, fur-trimmed coats, and slim fitting trousers made this collection anything but boring; it was classic with a trendy twist.
With sharp tailoring, and a great fit, this collection ensures that Canadians will be looking classic and chic this fall.

He's an up-and-coming fashion icon who has dressed world famous celebrities like Paris Hilton. He was named 'one of the people to watch in 2007' by Newsweek Magazine and he's become a superstar in his Native India over the past few years. But things can change in a flash. Fashion diva, Anand Jon, has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, some victims being as young as 15 years old.

The report involves 3 alleged victims, each woman claiming she was raped by the celebrity fashion designer. Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office claims that Job was charged with six felonies and one misdemeanor for assaults between the period of October 2004 and March 5 2007.
Jon's attorney, Ronald Richards, insists the allegations were made by models who felt as though they weren't getting the work they were promised by the designer. "In these cases, what is going on here is these girls fly in for model jobs after months of dialogue filled with flirtation, they have sexual interaction and if he doesn't put them in the show … then some time later they claim they had unwanted sex," says Richards.
Jon remains behind bars with bail set at $1,365,000. This could be a career-crashing situation for the up and coming fashion designer. With charges like this under his belt, it would be shocking if he found work again.

A Giorgio Armani Junior advertisement may be the next fashion ad to spark a heated debate. The ad, which features a little girl in a bikini top and shorts, has caught the attention of the Spanish authorities who are questioning whether the picture depicts the child in a sexually inappropriate way.
The investigation into the ad began days after Dolce and Gabbana were forced to withdraw their racy "fantasy rape" ad from circulation. The chief of Madrid's regional government child protection said he will be asking the advertising industry self-regulator to decide if the image should be pulled.
Reportedly, the ad, which can be viewed on the Armani website, has compelled several parents to complain. Arturo Canalda, head of child interests in Madrid said, "It's an advert where little girls aren't portrayed in the attitude of little girls...They are wearing make- up and they are about six or seven."
In response to the controversy, Armani's camp issued this email statement: "The matter will be reviewed once complete information has been received concerning the specific complaint."
In the midst of such controversy, and enforced censorship, where is the line drawn; who decides what's art and what's inappropriate?

It's official - Marc Jacobs has checked himself into a rehab center. The acclaimed designer reportedly relapsed after staying sober for the past seven years and decided to undergo a round of in-patient treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.
Jacobs had just finished showcasing his Fall 2007 designs which included ready to wear collections for his labels Marc Jacobs, and Marc by Marc Jacobs, as well as a collection for Louis Vuitton.
The hectic fashion schedule with runway shows in New York, London, and Paris may have had an impact on the over-worked designer; the day after the Louis Vuitton show in Paris, Jacobs flew to a treatment facility in Arizona.
According to Women's Wear Daily, Jacob's business partner, Robert Duffy, confirmed the rumor, "Marc made the right decision...When he relapsed, he wanted to deal with it right away."

If you love to look pretty then spring's romantic florals and feminine details are for you. Lace, bows, floral accents and prints can be found everywhere right now, and they look great with denim. So tap into your romantic side and get flirty in florals!
Fashion
Runway Inpspiration: Alexander McQueen

Team frilly, floaty tops with jeans for casual or evening looks; for work replace your classic button downs with a girly cami.
Look for vintage, or vintage-looking clutches with bows, ribbon, or floral details.
Dresses are THE look of the moment, and this spring they can be found with dainty floral prints, be-ribboned waists, and full, flowing shapes.
Resist the urge to drown yourself in head to toe florals; this trend looks cute when you limit the flora to one item only.
Necklaces look sweet when worn layered over one another; look for dainty styles with cute charms, or mementos for a personalized look.
Soft colors are big this spring: soft pink, dove gray, pale green, and cream are the colors du jour.

John Galliano brought some opulance and romance back to the runway with his newest ready to wear collection. In a grand throwback to the early nineties, Galliano managed to recapture the spirit of fashion decadence.

Models stalked the runway supermodel- style in bias-cut dresses, jackets with voluminous sleeves and asymmetric pleated details, and floaty chiffon. The look was romantic and completely eccentric; the perfect rebirth of Galliano's theatrical style from the '90s.
The look was over the top, vibrant, and excessive; everything from the glorious clothes to the bold makeup and the beautiful set design seemed to have only one purpose - to bring entertainment back into fashion.
Definitely an exciting collection - no trace of minimalism here!

Miuccia Prada showed her fall ready to wear collection in Paris last week; the collection was a bit eccentric, and didn't look easy to wear. It appears that Prada chose to focus on her social message and not the wearability of the clothes.

Prada, like many designers this season, was swayed by fashion's focus on man made fabrics and synthetics and this idea dominated her collection. A-line coats and skirts looked extremely fake, when in fact they were all real leather that were lined with neoprene to make them look rubbery.
So why the elaborate ruse? Prada's reasoning is that in the media, on T.V and in videos, women look fake; so why not try to demonstrate this vision through fashion?
The result was a collection that featured molded shapes, exaggerated, full pleated skirts, and polyester look-alikes.
